Discovering PADENGHE

Padenghe Castle
Padenghe Castle overlooks the village from the top of a hill and is considered one of the oldest fortified structures in the Valtenesi. Its construction is thought to date back to around the year 1000, whilst its current appearance is largely the result of medieval reconstruction work carried out between the 13th and 14th centuries and subsequent restoration work. The structure retains a rectangular layout, imposing walls and three towers; the tallest, at around twenty metres, is the most recognisable feature of the complex. From the tower, which is open to visitors at certain times, there is a sweeping view over Padenghe, Lake Garda and the villages on the Brescia side of the lake.

Palazzo Barbieri
Palazzo Barbieri is situated in the historic centre of Padenghe, next to the parish church, and is one of the town’s most iconic civil buildings. The palace is generally described as dating from the 18th century, but during restoration work, older sections were uncovered, some of which can be traced back as far as the 16th century. Its elegance is evident in the façade of stone and cobblestones, the entrance hall flanked by six columns, and the spectacular marble staircase leading to the upper floor. Today, the building is owned by the municipality and serves as the town hall, continuing to play a central role in the administrative and urban life of Padenghe.

Church of Santa Maria Assunta
The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is the parish church of Padenghe sul Garda and is one of the village’s main sites of religious and artistic interest. The bell tower stands out on the outside, whilst the interior is characterised by a single, spacious nave, carefully decorated. Along the sides are eight chapels framed by round arches, which enrich the liturgical space and draw the eye towards the works of art housed within the church. Among the most valuable features are the altarpiece by Paolo Farinati and the marble statues by Antonio Calegari, which are important examples of the local cultural heritage.

Casina Beach
Casina Beach is one of the main bathing areas in Padenghe sul Garda and is designated as a public beach with paid parking. Like many beaches in the area, it has a shoreline of gravel and pebbles, ideal for those looking for a simple, unpretentious spot to enjoy the lake. The presence of the Casina Restaurant, overlooking the beach, makes this stretch particularly convenient for those wishing to combine a day by the lake with a culinary break. It is an ideal spot for relaxation, sunbathing and swimming, set against the backdrop of the Valtenesi lake landscape.

The Lido di Padenghe
The Lido di Padenghe is a public beach designed for those who want to enjoy Lake Garda in a practical and relaxed way. The area offers hire services, including parasols, sun loungers and pedalos, making your stay more comfortable during the summer season. The shoreline, consisting of gravel and pebbles, is typical of the Brescia side of the lake and offers direct access to the water. It is ideal both for those wishing to spend a few hours in the sun and for those looking for a starting point from which to enjoy the scenery of Lake Garda from the water.

Lido Copelia
Lido Copelia is another popular beach for visitors to Padenghe who want a mix of freedom and facilities. The beach is described as both a public beach and a beach with facilities, offering the chance to make use of amenities and hire services. This dual nature makes it suitable for different types of visitors: those who prefer a simple day by the lake and those who, on the other hand, are looking for a more organised experience. Set within the natural surroundings of the lower Brescia side of Lake Garda, Lido Copelia enhances Padenghe’s reputation as a seaside resort and complements the town’s range of beaches.

Wineries and vineyards of the Valtenesi
Padenghe is situated in the Valtenesi region, an area renowned for its rolling countryside, vineyards and wine production. The tourism page highlights the presence of prestigious wineries and mentions the Grappello grape variety, described as characteristic of these areas and linked to the production of local wines, including Garda Classico. A visit to the wineries with wine tasting is therefore one of the recommended experiences, especially for those wishing to combine tourism, local culture and traditional produce. Nestled between the lake and the hills, the vineyards help to define the landscape and food-and-wine identity of Padenghe and the Valtenesi region.

The Old Port
The small harbour (known as “Old Harbour“), which is first mentioned as early as 1274, was extended during the Venetian Republic to serve the thriving grain market.
It is one of the most photographed and Instagrammed places in Italy, thanks to its natural and architectural features.
From the Ponte della Veneziana, which spans the harbour, you can enjoy the best view of Palazzo Todeschini, the statue of Saint Angela Merici and, in the background, the medieval castle.

The Lighthouse and the Harbour
The lighthouse is the quintessential symbol of Desenzano; it features in almost all the town’s logos and is the main attraction for tourists.
The lighthouse lantern, consisting of a dioptric device fuelled by paraffin, remained in use until 1903, when electric lighting was introduced, having already been in use in the town of Desenzano since 1899.
To this day, the building serves as a landmark for the whole community and is the point of arrival for the boats and ships moored in the harbour.

Rambotti Archaeological Museum
The museum, named after Giovanni Rambotti, houses an extraordinary collection of Bronze Age archaeological artefacts that document the development of pile-dwelling settlements on the shores of Lake Garda.
This is an interactive museum that offers sensory experiences which transport visitors back to prehistoric times, thanks in part to state-of-the-art technology.
On display in the museum are artefacts from the Lavagnone pile-dwelling site, the most recent of which is an ancient dugout canoe.

Oil and Wine Tasting
Food and wine are one of Desenzano’s many highlights. The local wines include Lugana, classic white Garda, Chiaretto, red Garda, Groppello and San Martino della Battaglia DOC.
Another gem of the region is its PDO extra virgin olive oil, characterised by an extremely low acidity level, which makes it particularly easy to digest and, as a result, highly sought-after.
The high quality of this Garda olive oil is monitored by its own consortium and by a certification body in accordance with a set of production regulations, which are among the most stringent in the country.

Golf
Gardagolf Country Club, in Soiano del Lago, offers its members and guests a technically challenging course set in breathtaking surroundings, always maintained to the highest standards, alongside a welcoming clubhouse offering a wide range of first-class facilities.
The Chervò Golf Hotel SPA & Resort is in San Vigilio, just a few minutes’ drive from the most beautiful resorts on Lake Garda and the most famous theme parks.
Calvagese, on the other hand, is home to the Arzaga Golf Club, a club of international renown; it attracts a great many guests who return here regularly every year.

Sailing and Cycling
Fraglia Vela, the DIELLEFFE Sailing Club, the Lega Navale and many other organisations offer opportunities to hire boats or take part in this sport.
Desenzano also frequently hosts top-level sailing competitions and, thanks to local organisations, places great emphasis on inclusivity, offering courses specifically for people with disabilities. “Lake likes bikes – The lake loves bikes”It’s not just a slogan, but a reality to be taken at face value.”.
Lake Garda is best enjoyed at a leisurely pace, without any stress.

Go-karting and Clay Pigeon Shooting
The South Garda Karting circuit is situated in the nearby town of Lonato. It is one of the most important karting circuits on the international scene.
As well as official races, the circuit offers visitors the chance to experience the world of karting through the hire of karts for adults and children, as well as two-seater karts.
The Trap Concaverde shooting range in Lonato comprises twelve shooting lanes, arranged side by side along a longitudinal axis. The orientation of the shooting direction ensures maximum usability, whilst minimising the disruption caused to shooters by direct sunlight.
